Task Analyser

Overview

PROBLEM

College life can be a stressful experience to many students since it is comes with heavy workloads, daunting deadlines, campus activities, messed up sleep schedules accompanied by new friendships and the pressure to go out multiple nights a week. In the era of FOMO, students are constantly trying get work done as well as make time for play thus making time management a major factor for their stress.

SOLUTION

Task Analyser gives personalised estimated time taken to complete a task based on user's previous data as well as helps simplify an assignment question for a better readability.

As of 2020, 87% of young adults aged 18–23 say education is a significant stress source.

Along with anxiety and depression, stress is one of the top three mental health issues for college students.

Psychologist William Knause estimated that 90% of college students procrastinate.

College students commonly experience stress because of increased responsibilities, a lack of good time management, changes in eating and sleeping habits, and not taking enough breaks for self-care.

More than 20 percent of students reported experiencing six or more stressful life events in the last year

college years are also a time of increased risk of stressful events and a wide range of accompanying mental health challenges, including risk of suicide

DATA COLLECTION
Observations
Online Observatiosn

We conducted online observations where we read a lot of posts written by students regarding student life on different social media platforms.

Offline Observatiosn

We conducted offline observations in our university library where we observed students for 120 minutes which was broken down into 60 minutes each.

Here are some of the key insights from our observations:

  1. Most students seemed to be in a hurry and paced around the library.

  2. Many students continuously kept on checking time.

  3. Some students made use of alarms to alert them at a particular time.

  4. Almost all students were dependent on  electronic devices to do their work.

DATA COLLECTION
User Interviews

We interviewed a total of 8 participants who were students ranging from undergraduates to graduate students. Most of these students lived away from home and had a part time job. Below are the key insights from our user interviews:

Students find it very difficult to manage and plan their day to day activities.

Many students confessed that they are stressed due to deadlines but procrastinate until the last minute which adds to their stress.

Most of the students have taken up part time jobs and find it difficult to prioritize coursework as they need monetary support for tuition.

A lot of students avoid taking part in extracurricular activities as well as avoid social gatherings due to heavy course load.

PROBLEM FRAMING
Analyzing Research Findings

We analyzed the gathered data through Affinity Mapping and Empathy Mapping which helped us arrive at Key issues that caused stress in students:

Difficult to manage both part-time job and coursework.

 

Difficulty in prioritizing  organizing tasks.

 

Difficulty in estimating time required to finish an assignment.

Procrastinating and setting unrealistic timelines, leaving assignments to the last minute.
